Baldock is where the River Ivel rises.  Many buildings in the town date from the sixteenth century.

Royston is situated where two Roman roads meet, the Icknield Way and Ermine Street.  The town is named after the wayside cross of Lady Roysia.  Royston is a small market town with light industry.
